COLLEYVILLE 5TH GRADERS POOL MONEY TO BUY GLASSES FOR COLOR BLIND STUDENT

A group of students from Glenhope Elementary in Colleyville, recently came together to support a color-blind classmate, pooling their allowance money to buy him special glasses so he can see colors. After learning that their 10-year-old fellow student, Jaron Casillas, was colorblind, the fifth-graders collected donations and bought him two pairs of EnChroma glasses, one for inside and one for outside. The glasses allow Jaron to distinguish colors like he’s never been able to his entire life.

The students collected the money in secret and then surprised Jaron with the glasses at school one day. Jaron’s parents Tim and Lindsay Casillas were there for the moment and were blown away the children’s kind gesture. “Witnessing the outpouring of compassion towards Jaron and unharnessed joy in the faces of so many children chanting his name, was a moment I will never forget,” Lindsay recalls.

Jaron will have to relearn the names of colors and shades, but a couple of his classmates have already stepped forward volunteering to help by coaching him and making flashcards. For Jaron, the gift is more than just a way for him to be able to see the world more vividly, it’s confirmation that his peers care about him. "I'm just really excited because I know that my friends are really true friends for doing this for me,” he says, “I can't believe this is happening!"
