Have you always dreamed of having your wedding in Italy? Now you could actually get paid to do it. The Italian region of Lazio, which includes Rome, is hoping to entice couples to tie the knot there by offering to give them around $2-thousand ($2,250) for wedding costs.
It’s all part of their campaign, “Nel Lazio con amore,” which translates to “From Lazio with Love.” Thanks to the pandemic, travel and tourism in the area took a big hit, so they’re hoping to lure folks back and reclaim themselves as a top spot for weddings in 2022. And if you’re into saying “I do” surrounded by historical monuments, like the Coliseum, the Trevi fountain and the Spanish steps, a cash incentive certainly doesn’t hurt.
Nicola Zingaretti, the president of Lazio, says the campaign is an effort to support the area that’s taken a big hit from the economic crisis. She explains that they’ve “put significant investment in place” so they can “boast about every part of the region, with many locations among the most magical and fascinating in the world thanks to an unparallelled cultural heritage.”
To get in on the money:
- Weddings must take place this year, so before December 31st, 2022.
- Lazio is offering the money as a refund for wedding expenses including photographers, cake makers, caterers and bridal shops.
- Couples have until the end of January 2023 to submit receipts.
