Detoxing After Inhaling Wildfire Smoke

The Camp Fire has had us unintentionally inhaling wildfire smoke since last Thursday. It's obviously not good for us. But we can't just stay inside forever! And it's not the flying ash in our eyes we should be concerned about. It's the toxins from the wildfire smoke we are injesting through normal breathing. 

There are a few things we can do to help rid our body of the toxins we've been inhaling according to

1. Drink lots of water. Particles get trapped in our lungs and can get into our blood and eventually contaminate other organs. Flush 'em out and up your water intake by 2-3 glasses.

2. Drink Hot liquids. Hot liquid promotes the movement and removal or mucous which may contain the contaminants.

3. Use a saline nasal spray. Allergies acting up? Most likely it's the smoke. Get rid of the foreign smoke particals for immediate relief.

4. Rinse Sinuses with a Neti Pot. This is a more natural cleanse of the senses. This can reduce congestion and keep your nasal passages from becoming dry.

5. Breathe in Steam with Thyme. Thyme is anti-microbial, anti-viral and an anti-fungal herb. Add a tablespoon with some boiling water and then lower your head (covered with a towel)  over the mix and breathe deeply for 1-2 minutes.

6. Load up on ginger. Ginger is another amazing herb to detoxify. There are chemical compounds that help the lungs function and improves blood circulation. Add it to dishes, dressings, and tea!

7. Increase Vitamin C intake. You've heard it a million times, the vitamin really helps boost your immune system. Much needed while you rid your body of wildfire toxins.
