How to Stop Impulse Buying

'Retail therapy' might make you feel good in the moment, but it can wreak havoc on your financial life. Here are ways to build healthier money habits to keep impulse spending at bay:

Give yourself 24 hours to think about something you want to buy.

Have a clear budget and review it every month.

Make it harder to impulse buy by setting up some obstacles or checkpoints for yourself so you can be more mindful when you do shop.

Create your budget in a way that allows flexibility for some splurges once in a while.

Finding support and accountability can go a long way in preventing you from impulsively spending.

If you're feeling anxious, stressed, or sad, and you find yourself shopping, stop and do something else.
