The tragic Guadalupe River flood is making people remember when a similar tragedy struck in July of 1987.

On July 16 and 17 in 1987, flash flooding resulted in one of the worst tragedies to ever strike the Texas Hill Country. Eleven inches of rain fell iun that disaster. While trying to evacuate a camp, a bus carrying 43 campers never made it across. Sadly, 10 of those on the bus drowned.

A report released by the National Weather Service in New Braunfels back then said, “The group was at exactly the wrong place at exactly the wrong time.”

As of late Saturday morning, the death toll from this event was 27, with nine children lost.
