Watch Paul McCartney, James Corden's 'Carpool Karaoke' Tour of Liverpool

At this point, if Paul McCartney is going to appear on the Late Late Show with James Corden, of course he's going to do a Carpool Karaoke segment.

But what no one expected before a couple of weeks ago when the two were seen galavanting The Beatles hometown of Liverpool, England, was that such a segment would take up about half of Thursday night's show.

Indeed, instead of driving aimlessly around Los Angeles, McCartney took Corden on a ride down memory lane in Liverpool. The pair stopped at the church where the former Beatle used to sing in the choir, the barbershop on Penny Lane — they even stopped in at McCartney's childhood home, which of course is now a museum.

Behind the wheel, Corden and McCartney sing a selection of Beatles tunes, including "Drive My Car," "Blackbird," "Let It Be" and two singles from McCartney's new album. After a stop at a local pub, where McCartney got his start as a rock singer, the walrus played a set, including "A Hard Day's Night," "Back in the U.S.S.R." and "Hey Jude."

Check out the whole segment in the video above.

McCartney this week announced that his new album, Egypt Station, will be released September 7.

He's released two singles in advance of the record, "I Don't Know" and "Come on to Me."
