A New "Star Wars" Trilogy Is Already In The Works

Star Wars fans were given some great news for the future of the franchise with a surprise announcement by Disney on Wednesday (November 9th). LucasFilm announced the Rian Johnson, director of soon to be released Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will be tasked with creating an all new trilogy after the current trilogy concludes in 2019.

Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said that Rian is "creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career.

She has confidence in the Johnson saying he "will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

While there are few details, the release said that the new trilogy will "introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored." Does this mean we could be getting a trilogy set in the days of the Old Republic? With a blank canvas the possibilities are endless. What part of Star Wars lore would you like to see explored in the next trilogy?

Disney also announced that they are going to be creating a live-action Star Was TV show.

Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in U.S. theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
