The nation’s solar eclipse yesterday apparently got a lot of people in the mood to listen to Bonnie Tyler’s classic, “Total Eclipse of the Heart.”
According to preliminary Nielsen numbers, streams of the 1983 hit rose 67% from 55,768 streams the week of August 11th to 93,148 streams the week of August 18th. Not only that, the song was so popular that it actually eclipsed (pun intended) Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” to take over the number one spot on iTunes. Apple sales of the tune were actually up 635% on August 18th.
Of course, Bonnie spent her eclipse performing her hit on Royal Caribbean's Total Eclipse cruise, where she was joined by DNCE for the performance. Check it out to the right.
