Suicide Texting Girl Sentenced

Michelle Carter, the girl who sent texts urging her then-boyfriend to commit suicide, was sentenced today to 2.5 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. She was awarded 15-months to be served, and the rest will be suspended, followed by five years of probation.

Judge Lawrence Moniz said Carter she could stay free pending appeals.

Conrad Roy III was 18 when he died in 2014 of carbon monoxide poisoning after locking himself in his truck in Massachusetts. His family expressed grief over the verdict, saying it wasn't a stiff enough penalty for the loss of their son.
