We Have Our First Ever Female "Doctor Who"

We've got our new Doctor...and dude, it's a lady! Jodie Whittaker is the 13th actor, and the first female, to take on the role of the time lord in "Doctor Who."

“I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey...with every Whovian on this planet,” Whittaker says. “It’s more than an honor to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”

“Doctor Who” first debuted in 1963, but its current incarnation dates back to a 2005 reboot. Whittaker is replacing Peter Capaldi who became the twelfth doctor in 2013. His final episode is a special scheduled for Christmas Day.

No word yet on when Whittaker will make her "Doctor Who" debut.
