Nivea is in hot water after their "white is pure" ad backfired on them. The ad, which is targeted to people in the Middle East on Facebook, shows a photo of a woman sitting on a bed in what appears to be a white robe. All fine right? Not really. The text under her says "white is purity."
The ad's original intent was to market a no-show deodorant that is meant to keep marks of clothing. The Twitterverse, naturally, condemned the ad and called Nivea out for not thinking through their plan.
Nivea has since pulled the ad and had this to say about their decision "That image was inappropriate and not reflective of our values as a company. We deeply apologize for that and have removed the post,” the statement reads. "Diversity and inclusivity are crucial values of NIVEA. We take pride in creating products that promote beauty in all forms. Discrimination of any kind is simply not acceptable to us as a company, as employees, or as individuals."
Maybe this will help the Pepsi scandal to blow over. Probably not though…
