Listen to Pearl Jam on iHeartRadio

Pearl Jam got an assist from their unofficial sixth band member at the Voodoo Music and Arts Experience.

Before Eddie Vedder and company took the stage to headline the New Orleans event Friday night, they were introduced by former Saints star, fellow Seattle native, and longtime friend Steve Gleason.

According to, Gleason - whose battle with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease has taken his ability to speak or walk - used eye-tracking technology to welcome his "hometown band."

Vedder says Gleason even put together their hit-heavy set list, which includes cuts from their new album Lightning Bolt as well as early hits like "Jeremy" and "Alive."  Some of the band members also sported Team Gleason apparel during the gig, continuing their support for the organization created to help people afflicted with ALS.

Nine Inch Nails topped the bill on Saturday after sets from Paramore, the Gaslight Anthem, Cults, Delta Rae, and others.  Sunday's lineup included Kid Rock, Bassnectar, Dr. John, and Matt and Kim, while the Cure took the stage that night to bring the long weekend to a close.
